Drone Racing has been described as the “sport of the future” and it is coming to Sportsclubsociety…
Sky has invested $1m in The Drone Racing League (DRL), and has agreed to a distribution deal that will see the thrilling world of elite drone racing come to the newly launched Sportsclubsociety Mix channel.
The DRL is a futuristic racing phenomenon, which sees quad-copter drones reach speeds of up to 120mph as skilled pilots guide them through three-dimensional courses.
DRL pilots are kitted out with first-person view (FPV) goggles, which transmit a live image from an onboard camera, and the custom-designed drones are guided through complex courses in the fastest time possible.
Race names such as ‘Moke’, ‘Furadi’ and ‘Zoomas’ are given to the DRL pilots, while their personal race equipment is given titles such as ‘Hovership Zuul SuperBeast’ or ‘RotorX Atom & Dronewolf Pup’.
DRL pilots often have their own trademark flying technique, with ‘MattyStuntz’ being well known for his lightning fast acrobatic moves, and Moke performs a high speed flip through small gaps.
Recent races have been staged at a power plant in New York and Miami’s Sun Life Stadium, which has attracted competitors from Brazil, Mexico, Australia.
Find out what it is all about watch our Introduction to Drone Racing on Sportsclubsociety Mix from 4am on Friday September 16, with the series getting underway in October.
