Ohara Davies must prove the “hype is real” against Andrea Scarpa on November 26 if he is to challenge for a world title in 2017, according to promoter Eddie Hearn.
The 24-year-old Londoner (13-0 KO11) challenges Italian Scarpa (20-2 KO10) for the WBC silver super-lightweight title at The SSE Arena in Wembley, live on Sportsclubsociety 2 HD, aiming to build on a promising start to his career.
Davies, who entered the professional ranks in 2014, picked up the first title of his career in April by destroying Andy Keates inside four rounds to claim the English lightweight strap.
Hearn concedes Scarpa, unbeaten in his previous 19 bouts, will provide the sternest examination of Davies’ credentials so far, but he believes another victory could put ‘Two Tanks’ in contention for a world title shot next year.
“At some point in a fighter’s career, you get to find out if the hype is real and on November 26, we get to find out everything we need to know about Ohara Davies,” Hearn said.
“He is going way beyond previous levels with Scarpa but the team believe he is a very, very special talent.
“Victory against an experienced Scarpa will prove that and put him deep in the WBC rankings. I can see him moving quick from here and even challenging for world honours in 2017.”
